Creative Breadcrumbs #5
Into the abyss of abstractions
This is a showcase of the drawings I made around 2018 to 2020, together with some notes about the work and what I did at that time. Everything shown is made with markers on plain paper.
Lets face it, I have done very little figurative art, and can not say I can draw any creature or human anatomically good, or perspective for that matter. I found it much more fun to explore form and colors that doesn’t have to be anything, or it can be many things at the same time. Looking at abstract art my brain starts imagining things, it forces me to think and come up with answers to what I am looking at.
Having drawn almost non stop in my spare time, I started to come up with a certain style. The colors also got better, after having explored what felt like every single marker sold in the art store. My favorite marker brand is Winsor & Newton, and still are my go-to markers, for the most vivid colors. I wish I got paid for that sentence.

After having drawn at home for years, I finally built the courage to showcase them to other people. I found a small and cozy venue in Rotterdam called Comics, Art & Beer, and it was the perfect place to finally expose my drawings to an audience.

Comics, Art & Beer is a place for established and upcoming comic artists. Essentially you get a table to showcase your work, for everyone visiting that day. You can also sell artwork, to anyone interested in buying. Having earned some selling stickers and postcards, the greatest satisfaction came from letting people experience your art.

I also met many other artists there, most of them comic book artists, whom I drew much inspiration from. And since it was a monthly venue, I met them many times those years. It was these artists that got me inspired to make my own comic(s). More on that on the next posting…
